Split an image into a grid

Use this image splitter to cut a JPG, PNG or WebP into rows and columns. Preview the pieces, drag the lines, then download a ZIP. The file never leaves this device.

Supported formats: JPG, PNG and WebP. Maximum 20 MB, 32 MP and 100 tiles on desktop.

How it works

Three steps to numbered tiles

01

Add a photo

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the image splitter. The file stays in your browser and is not uploaded to Fogkits for this tool.

02

Choose the grid

Pick 1×2 to cut an image in half, 2×2, 3×3, or type any rows and columns. Drag the preview lines when the tiles should not be equal.

03

Download the pieces

Export a ZIP of original-size tiles named in reading order, such as 01-row-01-col-01. On grids of 16 tiles or fewer, you can also save one piece from the list under the preview.

Layouts

Cut a photo in half, into three, or any grid

Start with a preset, or type the rows and columns you need. Uneven pieces use the same preview: drag a line instead of changing the count.

Cut in half

1×2 splits a picture into left and right pieces. 2×1 splits it into a top and bottom. Use either preset when you only need two files.

2×2 and 3×3

Four or nine equal tiles from one photo. A 3×3 grid is the usual starting point for nine-piece layouts.

Custom rows and columns

Type any layout up to 20×20, limited to 100 tiles. Odd pixel sizes still share an integer edge, so tiles can be reassembled without a seam.

Uneven split lines

Drag a guide when one piece should be wider than the others. The ZIP still names files from left to right, then top to bottom.

What this tool does

Fogkits splits a static image in the browser. It exports the same pixel size you uploaded, keeps PNG transparency by default, and writes one ZIP instead of a cloud job.

  • Equal or custom split lines
  • Original-resolution tiles
  • ZIP download; small grids can save one tile
  • PNG transparency kept by default
  • JPG, PNG and WebP in and out
  • No account required for this tool

Why choose Fogkits

Why split images in your browser

Equal grids, custom guides, and a numbered ZIP — without uploading the photo.

On-device image splitter privacy

Stays on this device

Canvas split and ZIP encoding run in the tab. Fogkits does not upload the source for this tool.

3 by 3 image splitter grid preview

Half, 2×2, 3×3, or custom

Presets for common cuts, or type any rows and columns up to the tile limit when you need a denser grid.

Live image splitter grid overlay

Live grid preview

See the cut lines on the photo before you export, and drag guides when one tile should be wider.

Full-resolution split image tiles

Original-resolution tiles

Exports keep the pixel size of each piece from your upload — no forced downscale for this tool.

Numbered ZIP of split image tiles

Numbered ZIP download

Tiles are named in reading order so you can save the set as one archive and keep sequence clear.

Use cases

When a grid split unblocks the next step

Three common jobs where cutting one photo into ordered tiles is faster than redesigning each piece.

Social grid tiles from one photo

Social layouts

Prep tiles for multi-post grids

Cut a single frame into 2×2 or 3×3 pieces when you want ordered tiles without rebuilding each crop by hand.

Print collage tiles from an image splitter

Print & collage

Break a photo into print-ready pieces

Export equal or custom tiles for posters, scrapbooks, or wall collages, then print each file at full resolution.

Custom uneven image splitter guides

Uneven cuts

Drag guides for wider hero tiles

When one strip should be larger than the others, drag the preview lines instead of forcing equal cells.

Frequently asked questions

Does this image splitter upload my photo?
No. Fogkits splits the file in your browser with Canvas. The original image is not sent to Fogkits servers for this tool.
How do I split an image into equal parts?
Choose rows and columns, or a preset such as 2×2 or 3×3. The splitter shares pixel edges so odd widths do not leave a 1 px gap. For uneven pieces, drag the lines on the preview.
Can I cut an image in half?
Yes. Use the 1×2 preset for a vertical split or 2×1 for a horizontal split. That gives you two files at the original pixel size.
How do I download the pieces?
Download ZIP packs every tile into one archive, named left to right and top to bottom. If the grid has 16 tiles or fewer, you can also click a file name under the preview to save just that piece.
What files are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. Transparent PNG stays PNG unless you switch the output to JPG, which fills transparent pixels with white. GIF, HEIC, TIFF, SVG and PDF are not supported on this page.
Is this an Instagram grid maker?
No. A 3×3 preset can cut a picture into nine tiles, but this page does not add Instagram safe zones, posting order or carousel-only crops.
